Capers goals at 3:32 and 6:29 of the first period by first-team ACHA All-Star, Leah Byrne, gave CBU the two-goal cushion in the first period, taking out the energy from the capacity crowd on-h和 to support the Hurricanes.
Another goal at 1:43 of the second period completed the hat-trick for Byrne, extending the lead to 3-0 for CBU.
There was no scoring in the third period.
The championship is the first for CBU in the ACHA since their last banner in 2013.
Grace Munro was named the Player of the Game for CBU, stopping 31-of-32 shots on goal. Alex和ra Deschenes was recognized for the Hurricanes.
CBU was outshot in the win, 32-21. Lindsey Minard, an ACHA second-team All-Star, suffered the loss in goal for the Hurricanes.
Neither team was successful on the power play in the game, each going 0-for-1.
An Abby Legere goal at 3:50 of the second period would give the Axewomen the comm和ing 3-1 lead through two periods.
After five minutes of four-on-four overtime, the two teams prepared for five more minutes of overtime hockey, this time three-on-three.
After a rush to the net by Renken off of the opening faceoff, Deschenes would ultimately end the game with a shot from the point that found its way past goaltender Brittany Longley just 16-seconds into the frame.
Jacy McMillan was named the ‘Canes Player of the Game.
The Hurricanes outshot the Axewomen, 44-30 in the win; Minard was the winning goaltender for the ‘Canes while Longley suffered the loss for Acadia.
After Saturday afternoons CBU victory over Acadia, the final was set 和 the Capers/Hurricanes game on Saturday night was just a formality before Sunday’s important championship game.
The ‘Canes would ultimately walk away with the convincing 5-1 win.
Two third period goals by ACHA second-team All-Star, Paige Deighan (4:22 和 7:00), secured the 5-1 victory for the ‘Canes the night prior to the championship.
Minard stopped 15-of-16 shots faced for the ‘Canes while Munro allowed five against on 33 shots for CBU.
When the championship concluded, Leah Byrne of the Capers would lead the championship with eight points in three games, comprised of four goals 和 four assists.
The Capers entered the championship as the third seed after a 2-5-1 regular season while the Hurricanes sat as the number two seed with a 2-3-3 record. The Axewomen were the top-seeded team after a 5-1-2 regular season.
